1. [The Comedian] saw the true face of the 20th century and chose to become a reflection, a parody of it. No one else saw the joke, that’s why he was lonely. Heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he’s depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says “Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up.” Man bursts into tears. Says “But, doctor…I am Pagliacci.” Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains. Fade to black.

  2. Miracles. Events with astronomical odds of occurring, like oxygen turning into gold. I’ve longed to witness such an event, and yet I neglect that in human coupling, millions upon millions of cells compete to create life, for generation after generation until, finally, your mother loves a man, Edward Blake, the Comedian, a man she has every reason to hate, and out of that contradiction, against unfathomable odds, it’s you - only you - that emerged. To distill so specific a form, from all that chaos. It’s like turning air into gold. A miracle. And so… I was wrong. Now dry your eyes, and let’s go home

  4. Possibility?
Iron Man was not born with powers. He was not bitten by a spider and turned into something super. Iron Man, literally, is a ‘possibility’ for someone with enough money to spend. Iron Man exists within the realm of the superhuman, but is NOT superhuman. What is so attractive about Iron Man, as a character, is not his shiny suit or the innate powers it gives Tony Stark (the man inside the suit), rather, its Stark himself; the morally flawed, arrogant, big-spending, fast-driving playboy that is the suit’s creator. An opposite take on Batman (a normal man, through great training becomes super) we love tony because he reinforces the idea that with enough money anything is possible.

  11. But whom do people kill? They kill the noble, the brave, the heroes. They take aim at those who do not know that with these they mean themselves. They should sacrifice the hero in themselves and because they do not know this, they kill their courageous brother…If men kill their princes, they do so because they cannot kill their Gods, and because they do not know that they should kill their Gods in themselves.
